The early season nod in men’s major play has got to go to  Resmondo Sod/Specialty Tank (Ohio) as they won the Gateway Classic USSSA Major NIT in St. Louis last weekend. Like they did in week one of the ‘conference’ tournament schedule in Florida, the nation’s No. 1 ranked club had to double dip their opponent in the finals, this time knocking No. 3 rated Long Haul/Phonemasters/Miken of Minnesota.

Normally no one feels too sorry for a loaded team like Resmondo, but they went an amazing 8-1 in this one, and had to finish the tournament with ten players.

Finishing third was Columbus Pipe (Ohio), but had to feel pretty good about themselves in view of the fact the knocked off Resmondo early in the event, sending the ‘Sodbusters’ to the losers bracket.

Dan Smith/Team Combat wins title

Dan Smith/Team Combat (Calif.) won the Glen Burnie Maryland NIT on April 26-27, topping No. 4 rated Jean Shoppe (Tenn.) in the tournament finals. Like Resmondo and Long Haul, both Dan Smith and Jean Shoppe will be making an appearance at the Dudley Classic/Sponsored by Easton, June 20-22 in Brooklyn Center, Minn.
