USSSA Update - June 28, 2012
By Gerry Turnberg
Hats off to Warren Bellm, Joe Ericksen and the entire staff at Brooklyn Center for once again showing why Minnesota hosts the No. 1 Major NIT in the country – the Dudley/Budweiser Classic!
Congratulations to Resmondo/Specialty Tank/Worth (Winter Haven, Fla.) for capturing the title and going a perfect 6-0. Sincere congratulations to Park Center High School graduate Scott Striebel who plays for Resmondo and was named to the All-Tournament team.
The highest finishing Minnesota teams tied for seventh place and were both a very respectable 4-2. 24 HR Corp/DBP/Breakaway (Brooklyn Center) was the highest finishing “C” team in the tournament and Luther Auto/Tanel 360/NSK/PROTANDIM (Oakdale) was the highest finishing “B” team.
Priority/CR’s (Brooklyn Center) won a three-team playoff to capture the “D” World Berth and $500.
The past two weekends, National and World berths were awarded at Champlin’s Father Hennepin Days and Brooklyn Park Tater Daze. Father Hennepin awarded BP Athletics.com (Fridley) a Men’s “D” National berth and MN Jinx (Anoka) a Women’s “D” National berth. Rapid Ricks/The Flame (Nicollet) captured the Mixed “D” World Berth. First Class/Jeb Drywall/Prime Mortgage (Brooklyn Center) went a perfect 5-0 at Tater Daze to capture the Men’s “D” National Berth.
Where has the summer gone? Before we know it, the Minnesota Lynx should be capturing their second straight WNBA Championship.
Our Youth State Championships will be held July 13-15 with action taking place in Champlin, Oakdale and North St. Paul. Good luck to all teams!
One last reminder that all teams going to World tournaments must play in their State tournament and a National tournament.
Central Division National Tournaments:
Men’s “C” – Blaine, MN, August 25-26
Men’s “D” – Bridgeton, MO, Sept. 1-3
Men’s “E” – Omaha, NE, Sept. 1-3
Women’s “B/C” & “D” – Blaine, MN, August 25-26
With the postseason right around the corner, remember if you play on teams in different classes, you are eligible ONLY for those weekend and post season tournaments with your HIGHEST classified team. Teams found in violation of this will forfeit all awards and travel expense monies won and individual player eligibility may be placed in jeopardy. Ignorance is not an excuse; know the rules!
Below is a list of remaining national invitational tournaments that are run by our state office. To enter any of these tournaments call my office (763.571.1305 x 108) or visit our website at www.mnusssa.com.
