Gopher State Baseball League wraps up 2013 season
Wow, another spring/summer baseball season is complete! The past four months have really flown by. Even with the rain we had during the months of May and June all teams adjusted and worked hard to reschedule and get their games in. We want to thank each team, coach, player, parent, association travel director and president for making the 14th†season of the Gopher State Baseball League such a great year.
We are once again proud of the strength and growth of the GSBL with 420 traveling baseball teams participating in 2013. With 50 league divisions that were broken down based upon geographic location and more than 55 associations represented, we are proud of the strength and growth of this league.
The season culminated with the single elimination league playoffs, which were hosted at some of the top venues in the metro area. Many of the league championship games were very competitive and matched teams that had not faced each other all season.
The 14AAA Tier I League Champions, Delano Tigers and the 15AAA Tier I League Champions, Shoreview Area, had the opportunity to represent the GSBL at Target Field in the Play Ball! MN Championship Game on July 23. The Delano Tigers won 8-4 against the Woodbury Royals and Shoreview Area was defeated 8-1 by Eden Prairie. It was a great day for the GSBL and youth baseball!
The championship games were held during the week of July 22 for 9-13U teams.† The 9U and 10U championships were held at the Fridley Little League Fields, the Northwoods Complex in Brooklyn Park was host to the 11U & 12U League Championships, and Central Park #3 held the 13AAA and 13A League Championships. The 13AA League Championships were held at Edinbrook Fields in Brooklyn Park.
On July 18, the 14AAA and 15AAA Tier I Championships were held at Bethel and University of Northwestern. Playoffs resumed on July 22 and July 25 for the 14AAA Tier II and 15AAA Tier II Championships at Hargis Park. The playoffs continued on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28. The MYAS baseball staff was proud to have Bethel University and Midway Stadium play host to our 16U and 17-19U league championships, where four more teams earned the title of League Champion.
The playoffs concluded on July 29-30 with the 14U-15U league championships, hosted by Bethel University and Midway Stadium. Four more teams were awarded the title of Tier I or Tier II League Champion. In all, 32 teams were crowned 2013 GSBL League Champions.
The Gopher State Baseball League is stronger today than it has ever been and we would like to thank everyone who participated for making this another great year. The reason why the league has gained such a strong reputation is because of the member associations, the coaches and all the participants who make this a fantastic product! We will continue to listen to our participants in order to make this product even better as we embark on our 15th†Anniversary offering the Gopher State Baseball League.
Final results of the 2013 Gopher State Baseball League Division and League Champions are available on the GSBL portion of the MYAS website at www.myas.org. If your association would like additional information about the GSBL and are currently not participating, please do not hesitate to contact the League Commissioner at email@example.com.
