Girls Fastpitch Champs Crowned

Five NSF•MSF Girls Fastpitch State Champions have been crowned to date.

Playing in Austin, Minnesota at Todd Park North, Austin Blue of the Southern Minny league coached by Dan King shut out Fairmont Red of the Southern Star league 12-0 for the Class C 12U state title. Austin White of the Southern Minny Association finished third.

In Class C 14U, Austin coached by Will Pazurek defeated Fairmont 11-2 with Rochester X-treme finishing third.

Class C 16U play saw the Winona Winstars Orange coached by Mike Lafky best the Rochester Mirage 14-5. Rochester Dynamite captured third.

BGMR Gators of the Northern Star league coached by Kent Christen edged Worthington SW Storm 7-6 in the 18U C Championship. Watertown Royals from the Crow River Association finished third.

In 14U Rec played in Sauk Rapids, BGMR Gators coached by Mikaela Janicke dropped the Alexandria Cardinals 9-1 to capture the title. Tracy finished third.

A big thank you to all teams that played NSF•MSF State this year in Girls Fastpitch and the hosts who conducted the events. Please help spread the word on the program so even more teams are playing next year!


Ed Oliver Memorial Hall of Fame Qualifier in Cambridge, Minn., crowns two champions

Allegiance Auto/DC Drywall of the Chisago County league managed by Jake Remine edged the Boulevard Bar of South St. Paul to capture the Class D Ed Oliver Hall of Fame Qualifier title in Cambridge and both teams qualified for the NSF North American Championships on Labor Day Weekend in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Shane Butcher of Allegiance was named tournament MVP.

In the Class EE division the Whistling Pickle from Zimmerman managed by Jeff Pegues were the top EE team and captured a berth to the NSF North Americans. Casey McEachoolm of the Whistling Pickle was voted MVP.

Congratulations to all the teams that played in the 2013 Ed Oliver and thanks to Duke and the Cambridge-Isanti Softball Association for doing such a great job hosting the event.


Adult Softball Postseason Play Underway

The first weekend of NSF•MSF  adult softball postseason play is in the books. Cambridge played host to the Church State Tournament and the Men’s Masters Slow Pitch State Tournament over the weekend of July 27-28.

Celebration Lutheran from St. Cloud won the Church State Championship. Celebration rolled through the winner’s bracket scoring 19 runs in each of their first three games. It set the stage for a championship matchup with Cross Pointe from the Dalbo Area Ministerial league. Crosse Point forced the “if” game with a 16-15 victory, but Celebration ultimately won the title convincingly by a final score of 14-1 in the final championship game.

In the Class B Men’s Masters Tournament, C&L Excavating from Sartell and Jimmy’s Pourhouse/Reuter Auto advanced out of pool play to the championship series. Jimmy’s only needed two games in the best two-of-three to complete the tournament victory. They won 30-14 in game 1 and 16-15 in the clincher.

The Class C Men’s Masters Tournament featured a championship matchup of Dugout Bar out of St. Paul and out of Cottage Grove. Both teams had put up big run totals up that point, but it was’s bats that stayed hot in the championship game. They put away Dugout Bar 20-8 in the final.


State Tournament Play Continues

August will be a softball crazy month for NSF•MSF players with more than 20 state champions being crowned and men’s and women’s teams qualifying for the NSF North American Championships in Sauk Rapids on Labor Day Weekend.
