2013 USSSA Fastpitch Summer wrap-up

By Scott & Erin Brown

MN USSSA State Fastpitch Directors

The summer season in just about over as teams are wrapping their USSSA World Series play. Twenty-five teams wound up going off to their prospective USSSA World Series sites. Here are some highlights from this summer.

State Champions were crowned at every level this year. This marks the first time that we have all age groups covered from 10U to 18U. State tournaments were held at two locations on different weekends.  Rosemount hosted the 14UA, 16U Open and 18UA State tournaments at Erickson and Shannon Parks. Cloquet hosted the 10U, 12U, 14UB, 14UC and 18UB State tournaments at Braun Park.

A rain-filled weekend in Rosemount backed up many games but we were able to pull off state champions and give four berths away at each age level. Cloquet brought us better weather and featured its first USSSA event at Braun Park. Home to six fields, the staff and host organization were on top of the ball with field maintenance at its best which helped provide us with an exceptional event.

Below are the results from each of those tournaments.

The 4th of July brought in a lot of fireworks for a new tournament in the Stars and Stripes World Series Qualifier at Dred Scott Fields in Bloomington. We had teams from four different states. We are excited to announce that we already have many more commitments for this tournament next to rival the historic tournament over in Sioux Falls.

From early results in USSSA World Series play, we would like to congratulate Lakeville Ice 99 on becoming World Series Champions at the 14UB World Series in Lawrence, Kan., by going a stifling 10-1 on July 15-21. Hailey Forshee, daughter of Head Coach Jeff Forshee, was named MVP for her outstanding performance throughout the tournament and Madison Muelken was named Defensive MVP.

Here are some other notable results from USSSA World Series Play:

18UA – Seventh place Minnesota Impact 94; ninth place MN Renegades 18U of 58 teams

18UB – Ninth place Hollywood of 20 teams

16UA – Fifth place Rochester Royals; ninth place Clutch Hitters Blue and MN Impact 96 of 46 teams
