Crowning of state champions underway

Before the 2014 summer season concludes over 30 state champions will be crowned in NSF&MSF State Tournament play.

Leading the way in 2014 was the Minnesota Girls Fastpitch Association Championships on July 19-20 in Austin and St. Cloud.

In Class C 14-Under Girls Fastpitch Championship action, Zumbrota-Mazeppa Sting of the Southern Minny (below left) league topped Rochester Xtreme of the Southern Minny league 9-6. In Class D 14-Under Girls Fastpitch play, Austin Red was hitting on all cylinders in a 13-1 victory over Byron CCS.

At St. Cloudís Whitney Park, Sleepy Eye blanked the SW Worthington Storm 8-0 in the final of Class C 18-Under Girls Fastpitch.

In Class C 16-Under play Austin (below right) edged the Minnewaska Lakers 2-1 for the title.

Congratulations to all teams that played in the 2014 MGFA-MSF State Championships!


Menís Masters and Church Slow Pitch

The adult softball postseason schedule kicked off on July 26-27 when the Menís Masters Slow Pitch and Church Slow Pitch teams gathered in Sauk Rapids for their annual state tournaments.

In the Church Slow Pitch State Championship game, Celebration Lutheran out of St. Cloud defended their title over Calvary, also from St. Cloud by a score of 9-7. It was the first back-to-back Church State Champion since Mount Olivet pulled off the feat in 2004-05.

OíBrienís Pub from Rice fought their way through the loserís bracket and defeated Dugout Bar from St. Paul twice to win the Class C 35-Over Masters State Championship. OíBrienís put up 17 and 23 runs in the final two games to win the title.

The Class B 35-Over Masters division has a new state champion ó Stoneyís out of Rockville. Stoneyís defeated Aqua Vitae, Cottage Grove 28-8 in the championship game. Reuter Auto/Jimmyís Pourhouse out of Sauk Rapids was the two-time defending champion going into the tournament.


National Tournaments set for Cambridge and North Mankato

Cambridge, Minnesota will host the 2014 National Softball Federationís North American Menís and Womenís Slow Pitch Championships on Labor Day Weekend. Menís and womenís slow pitch teams qualify by virtue of their finish in state tournament play.

North Mankato, Minnesota will host the 2014 NSF Menís Fastpitch North American Championships on August 22-24 at Caswell Park. Teams and players qualify by playing in a 2014 MSF State Championship. Masters Fastpitch 40 and 50-Over Championship play will be held in conjunction with the 2014 National Championships at North Mankato.


Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame

Nominations are in and the votes are being tabulated to determine the 2014 Hall of Fame Class. Watch for an announcement soon. This yearís banquet will be held on Saturday, November 1.
